FIGHTING FOR RIGHTS
Championing Access, Equality, and Dignity for All Paralyzed Veterans
At the Paralyzed Veterans of America California Chapter, advocacy is at the heart of everything we do. From fighting for civil rights and accessible communities to protecting vital healthcare and benefits, we work every day to ensure that veterans living with paralysis have the support, respect, and opportunities they’ve earned.
Join us as we stand up for justice, inclusion, and independence — because when one veteran rises, we all rise.
Civil Rights
PVA has long been a national leader in advancing civil rights for people with disabilities. Our advocacy helped shape the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and continues to ensure public spaces, housing, and transportation remain accessible to all veterans. We fight against discrimination and push for stronger enforcement of accessibility laws across California and beyond.
Employment Rights
Employment is more than a paycheck — it’s purpose, pride, and independence. PVACC works to break down barriers that prevent veterans with disabilities from finding meaningful employment. We advocate for accessible workplaces, reasonable accommodations, and federal hiring programs that honor the skills and service of our veterans.
Long-Term Service and Support
Every veteran deserves quality long-term care options that respect their independence and individuality. Our advocacy ensures that California veterans have access to in-home care, adaptive housing, caregiver support, and medical services through both the VA and community-based systems.
Benefits & Services
We fight to safeguard the benefits veterans and their families depend on — from healthcare and housing to education and compensation. Our national and state teams work directly with lawmakers and the VA to streamline benefits, remove red tape, and expand access to essential programs.
Spinal Cord Injury & Disease Care
As the leading voice for veterans with spinal cord injuries and diseases, PVACC works to ensure world-class healthcare and rehabilitation through the VA’s SCI/D System of Care. We advocate for properly staffed, well-funded VA SCI Centers and policies that improve outcomes for veterans living with paralysis.
Social Security
For many veterans with disabilities, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a vital safety net. We advocate for fair, timely processing of claims, updated disability standards, and stronger coordination between the VA and Social Security systems to prevent delays or denials.
POLICY PRIORITIES
Building a Better Future for All Veterans
Each year, Paralyzed Veterans of America identifies national and local policy priorities focused on accessibility, healthcare, employment, and independent living. Our California Chapter plays a vital role in pushing these priorities forward through direct engagement with lawmakers, coalition partners, and veteran advocates.
