Empowering Veterans to Move, Connect, and Thrive

At the Paralyzed Veterans of America California Chapter (PVACC), we believe that movement is medicine — and adaptive sports open the door to freedom, confidence, and connection. Through our Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program, we help veterans of all abilities rediscover the joy of physical activity, adventure, and community.

The Power of Adaptive Sports

Participating in adaptive sports is more than just exercise — it’s a non-pharmacological path to healing that improves both physical and emotional well-being. Our programs are designed to help veterans:

curve

Promote adjustment to life with a disability

Encourage greater independence and self-sufficiency

Improve physical fitness, balance, and coordination

Reduce pain and reliance on medication

Boost mood, confidence, and self-esteem

Lower anxiety and increase overall quality

Opportunities

Connection Through Competition and Camaraderie

When veterans participate in sports together, they don’t just strengthen their bodies — they strengthen bonds.  Adaptive sports bring opportunities for teamwork, community involvement, and shared achievement. Whether it’s through recreational activities or competitive events, participants experience friendship, purpose, and pride.

SPORTS

Adventure for every interest

PVACC proudly supports a wide range of adaptive activities — from low-intensity recreation to high-adrenaline experiences. Whatever your passion, we can help connect you to programs that fit your lifestyle and comfort level.
Some of the activities our members enjoy include:

  • Outdoor Adventures: Fishing, hiking, archery, hunting, and cycling

  • Court Sports: Wheelchair basketball, tennis, and boccia

  • Water Sports: Swimming, kayaking, and SCUBA diving

  • Extreme Sports: Skydiving, off-roading, and racing

  • Multi-Sport Organizations: Opportunities to explore many adaptive sports through partner programs

We work closely with trusted adaptive sports organizations across California and beyond — so there’s always a way to get active and stay connected.
