Artis, US Army Veteran, served from 1978-1985 as a communications specialist who was stationed in Germany. Artis was a switchboard NCO until he suffered an injury in 1983. Post injury he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cal State Dominguez in Carson, CA. Artis retired from the LAUSD after 27 years of service as a Project Manager.
